Who Is Dark City Poker League?
We are all friends, family, or co-workers who merely enjoy getting together and playing poker in a relaxed environment. Dark City Poker League was started in 2006, and its intentions were merely a way to add some excitement to our weekend home poker games. Since the addition of the League to our home games, it has made our home games more interesting by giving everyone a common goal to strive for rather than the same weekly game. Also with the launch of Dark City Poker League, we have been able to open our games up to more people, making new friends in the process. We enjoy a regular crowd at all of our games, along with new faces, some of which continue to come and enjoy the good times and play some poker!
Registration Fees and Regular Season Game Buy-Ins
No registration fee is required for the Dark City Poker League provided that each person meets minimum requirements. Dark City Poker League requires all of its members be at least 21 years of age, agree to our rules and guidelines, and play a minimum of 8 games per season. If a player does not play the minimum 8 games (but at least 4 games), a registration fee will be required to participate in post-season play, should that player be eligible at the end of the regular season. Any collected registration fees will be applied directly to our current season's Championship Main Event prize pool.
Regular season event buy-in is $25 for every player. $20 is applied to the nightly jackpot, and $5 is applied to the current season's Championship Main Event jackpot. All monies are paid out to players. There is never a rake or fee applied to any player.
Regular Season Games
Season 8 is scheduled for 14 events. This includes 12 regular season event, the Second Chance Qualifying Event and our Championship Main Event. Tournament dates and formats are available on our season schedule.
During regular season events, all players begin with 25,000 starting chips. One rebuy per tournament is allowed. Round times will vary, with blinds increasing every round. Regular season events are also capped at 20 or 21 rounds. Should any regular season event go the full length of the tournament, the remaining players' chips shall be counted and the chip leader will be awarded first place, second in chips will be awarded second place, etc.
Regular season events are also currently capped at 24 players (3 tables; 8 players per table).
Regular Season Payouts
Payouts for regular season events will vary based on participation. 10 and under will pay 2 places (approx. 65/35), 11-16 will pay 3 places (approx. 55/30/15), and 17-24 players will pay 4 places (approx. 50/25/15/10).

All dates, times and locations are prescheduled, however all events should be considered TBD until officially announced. Our target is every other Saturday, 8:00PM, with registration beginning at 7:30PM. Regular players are always welcome and encouraged to volunteer a venue for play.
Points and Scoring
Points shall be awarded based on performance. Each regular season game, all players will accrue points based on their performance for the regular season. At the end of our 12 regular season events, the 8 top points leaders will be invited to play at our 9 person Championship Main Event. Players ranked 9th and beyond will be invited to play at a Second Chance Qualifying Event to earn the 9th seat at the Championship Main Event.

For each player that is eliminated from the tournament, a bonus point shall be awarded to your base points. In addition, the previous tournament winner will be worth an additional 5 points!
Points Tiebreakers
Tiebreakers for the points leader board will be based on the following in this order:
- Regular events played in a season
- Season points accumulated (before bonus points)
- Average regular event finishes over 5th place
- Best of five rock-paper scissors
Second Chance Qualifying Event
After the regular season has ended, players ranking 9th and beyond in accumulated season points will be invited to play the Second Chance Qualifying Event. The winner of the wild card game will be awarded 50 points as well as the 8th seat at the Championship Main Event. There is no buy-in required for the Second Chance Qualifying Event provided you have played in at least 6 of the current season regular events. If a player has played in less than 6 regular season events but at least 2 regular season events (2, 3, 4 or 5), they will be required to pay a league membership fee. This membership fee must be paid prior to taking your seat at the table. All membership fees shall be applied to the final table jackpot. If a player is in the top 7, but has played less than 8 regular season tournaments, they must play the Second Chance tournament before being eligible for the Championship Main Event. In this instance, 2 players from the Second Chance tournament will earn their seat to the Championship Main Event, however only the first place finisher will earn bonus points. Players who have only played 1, 2 or 3 regular season game will not be eligible to play at the Second Chance Qualifying Event for the eighth Championship Main Event seat.
If an invited player arrives late or does not show up for the regular season event, they will receive cards and will be blinded out until arrival or until all remaining chips have been lost. If an invited player has not met membership requirements prior to taking their seat at the Second Chance Qualifying Event, their chips shall be removed from the table and their seat will be forfeited and vacated.
Championship Main Event
The Championship Main Event is open to all regular season players in Dark City Poker League. The Main Event is open to all qualifying players in the league. Each player's starting chips will vary and will be based upon his or her final point standings. Each full point accrued throughout the regular season shall be worth 100 chips, and each half point shall he worth 50 chips. For example, if a player has earned 469.5 points through the regular season, their starting chip count will be 46,950. There is no buy-in required for the Championship Main Event for the top 7 point leaders or the Second Chance tournament winner. If a player has played less than 8 regular season games, they will be required to play in the Second Chance Qualifying Event regardless of their final point standings in order to qualify for play at the Championship Main Event. The Championship Main Event will pay the top 4 positions (50/25/15/10) and will also receive a trophy or award for their accomplishments.
If an invited player arrives late or is absent for the Championship Main Event, their chips will be considered live and be blinded out until all remaining chips have been lost. Any player who has registered for the Championship tournament that has not finished in the top 7 or qualified through the Second Chance tournament has not arrived by the first break (unless they have made prior arrangements) will forfeit their seat to any available standby player. If there is no available standby player, their chips shall be removed from the table.
Rounds shall run according to our regular season schedule (with extra rounds added after 21) at the Championship Main Event and the game will continue until one player holds all the chips. |
